Emery more principled than those who oppose him Prince of Pot has second thoughts about plea bargain, likely won't abandon co-accused friends Ian Mulgrew, Vancouver Sun Published: Monday, January 21, 2008 Marc Emery, Vancouver's Prince of Pot, triggered headlines around the globe by revealing his tentative five-year plea bargain with the U.S. over money laundering and drug charges. Still, his wife Jodie urged everyone to remember that although he has tentatively agreed to the deal proposed by the U.S., it is by no means finalized. The deal had not been signed by both countries, Emery and the courts. And the U.S. has not yet agreed to drop the charges against Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams, two of Emery's friends who are co-accused. He has made their freedom a condition of his "guilty" plea. Supreme Court -- throw caution to the wind and battle tooth-and-nail against the U.S. request, which is a product of Emery's mail-order seed-sale business in the U.S. I doubt it. Emery is a principled man -- far more so than those who disagree with him. If he can save his friends, he will. If not, well.... I think what is happening is an outrage. Emery is being handed over to the Americans for selling seeds at a time when the marijuana law in Canada is problematic at best. In Ontario, judges have found the failure of the government to provide marijuana to the sick invalidates the present criminal law against at least possession. It's a conclusion that flows directly from previous Supreme Court of Canada decisions. If sick and suffering Canadians are prevented from getting the safe and effective medicine they need -- marijuana -- by a criminal law, that statute is unconstitutional. In Victoria, a B.C. Supreme Court trial and in Sechelt, a Provincial Court trial are under way involving precisely this question. "The government can only make simple possession, and possibly cultivation and trafficking, illegal if it has a constitutional medical marijuana program [that works]," said Kirk Tousaw, a lawyer involved in both cases as well as Emery's. "It may well be that, as in 2003, marijuana possession is legal in Canada. Of course that doesn't mean that police will stop enforcing the possession law right away, or that the Crown will stop prosecuting, so people would do well to be cautious in their reaction. That said, it is an exciting time for marijuana law reform in Canada." Unless you're Marc Emery. I can't imagine what he's feeling as the effects of his 14-year-long crusade bears fruit and he faces a medieval jail sentence. Some of the discourse around his predicament must rile, if for no other reason than its surreal quality. Consider, for instance, Marlene Jennings, Liberal justice critic, fuming with outrage: "You can't blame him [for trying to cut a deal] when he's up against the Conservative government that's basically telling the states, 'Do what you want, we're not going to fight it. We're not going to prosecute, we're not going to bring criminal charges, but we'll let you do it. We'll let you do the dirty work for us. And then we'll stand by with our arms crossed.'" Too bad it was the previous Liberal administration of ex-prime minister Paul Martin back in 2005 that set this injustice in motion. Damn him, Jennings. The Conservatives have the power to step in and halt this travesty -- but let's not blame them for creating it. Also, although Emery's deal is aimed at having him serve his time in Canada, any agreement requires him to travel to America for judicial processing. TONYA DAVIS, A WONDERFUL PERSON HAS GIVEN ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE FOR "TREATING YOURSELF MAGAZINE, AND SHE WAS THE FIRST PERSON I REACHED OUT TO WHEN I BEGAN TO RESEARCH "MEDICAL CANNABIS" SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE MY FATHER�S DEATH IN JUNE OF 2001, HE HAD CALLED ME ONE DAY, ASKING ME IF I COULD GET HIM SOME "POT". HE STATED HE HADN�T BEEN FEELING WELL AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT MIGHT MAKE HIM FEEL A LITTLE BETTER.. I WAS TAKEN BACK BY HIS REQUEST, BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER CONDONED ITS USE, ONLY MADE A FEW JOKES ABOUT IT. HE WAS 84 YEARS OLD AND HAD CHF AND COPD AND HAD BEEN "GOING DOWNHILL" FOR THE PAST YEAR. TO THIS DAY I FEEL SOMEWHAT GUILTY FOR NOT HAVING HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND ENOUGH TO FIND OUT HOW I COULD HAVE PROVIDED THIS "GOD GIVEN" PLANT TO HIM TO EASE HIS MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ANGUISH. AFTER MY FATHERS DEATH IN 2001, I TURNED TO THE INTERNET FOR ENTERTAINMENT SO TO SPEAK. AND ONE DAY OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE SKY THE PHRASE "MEDICAL MARIJUANA" CAME TO MIND. I THOUGHT, "I WONDER IF THERE IS ANYTHING OUT THERE ONLINE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT", I AM NOT SURE WHY THAT PARTICULAR PHRASE CAME TO MY MIND BUT I LIKE TO THINK IT WAS A MESSAGE FROM MY FATHER, TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN OUR COUNTRY. ANYWAY, AS I TYPED IN MEDICAL MARIJUANA AND DID A GOOGLE SEARCH, WHO�S NAME POPPED UP BUT TONYA DAVIS AND "MMJACTIONNETWORK", WHICH IS TONYA�S SITE. I LOOKED IT OVER AND FOUND HER NAME AND THERE HAD BEEN A POST BY HER LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO HELP. I CALLED HER AND MEEKLY ASKED IF SHE NEEDED ANYONE TO "STUFF ENVELOPES" AND THE REST IS HISTORY! I HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS ONLINE READING AND RESEARCHING ABOUT THE CANNABIS CONSPIRACY. AND THE MORE I RESEARCH THE MORE OUTRAGED I BECOME! IT IS NOT JUST A CANNABIS CONSPIRACY - IT WAS AND STILL IS A WAR BETWEEN THE INDUSTRIALISTS AND THE AGRICULTURALISTS. IT IS HARD EVEN FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE CONSPIRACY IN THIS COUNTRY GOES SO DEEP. I ALWAYS HAD BELIEVED THAT THERE WERE SOME "INSTANCES OF CONSPIRACY" SO TO SPEAK. I HAD HEARD CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN MY RELATIVES AT THE DINNER TABLE A LOT AS A CHILD, AND THE NAMES OF HEARST, ANSLINGER, DUPONT CORP. AND GENERAL MOTORS, ALONG WITH THE KENNEDYS AND JOHNSON, BUSH, ETC., SO THE THOUGHT OF CONSPIRACY WAS THERE BUT I NEVER WOULD HAVE BELIEVED WHAT I KNOW NOW IF I HAD NOT SEEN IT DOCUMENTED MYSELF. THE INFORMATION IS OUT THERE NOW, FOR EVERYONE TO SEE. THANK GOD AT LEAST WE HAVE THE "FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT", AND WE AS CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY OWE IT TO OUR COUNTRY TO INVESTIGATE WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND WHY, AND TO CORRECT THE AWFUL WRONG THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO VIRTUALLY EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD.! IN THE 1920�S ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS RAW HEMP BEGAN TO BE ABLE TO BE MASS PRODUCED, MR. RANDOLPH HEART, A MEDIA MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, BEGAN THE "REEFER MADNESS" CAMPAIGN. THE REASON FOR THIS WAS THAT HE OWNED MILLIONS OF ACRES OF PRIME TIMBERLAND - AND WITH THE INCREASED PRODUCTION OF HEMP HIS TIMBERLAND WOULD BE WORTH MUCH LESS - THEREFORE HE SET OUT TO CONVINCE THE PUBLIC THAT THIS "DRUG" WOULD CAUSE "YOU TO GO "CRAZY" AND "CAUSE YOUR KIDS TO GO CRAZY TOO AND HAVE SEX!" 2. THE DUPONT CHEMICAL CORP. HAD PATENTS ON SYNTHETIC PETROCHEMICALS AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES THAT WAS WORTH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. IF HEMP WERE ALLOWED TO BE PROCESSED, THE WORTH OF THOSE CHEMICALS WOULD GO STRAIGHT DOWN HILL. 3. THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOUGHT NOT ONLY TO END SLAVERY, IT WAS A FIGHT BETWEEN THE NORTHERN INDUSTRIALISTS AND THE SOUTHERN AGRICULTURAL FARMERS. IN ESSENCE SYNTHETIC PETROLEUM FROM THE DUPONT CORP. VS. THE MANUFACTURING OF HEMP AT A MUCH LOWER PRICE, AND THE FACT THAT IF WOOD WERE ALLOWED TO SUCCUMB TO HEMP, SO-TO-SPEAK, THERE WOULD BE A "CAPITALIST LOSS" OF WHO KNOWS HOW MANY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. SO IN FREEING THE SLAVES THE INDUSTRIALISTS WERE ABLE TO HINDER THE FARMERS BY LIMITING THEIR PRODUCTION AND TRANSFER THE WEALTH TO THE INDUSTRIALISTS. BECAUSE WHEN THE SLAVES WERE FREED, THEY WENT STRAIGHT TO THE INDUSTRIALISTS FOR JOBS IN ORDER TO SURVIVE THAT WERE LITTLE OR NO BETTER THAN THAT OF THE SLAVERY THEY HAD JUST BEEN LIBERATED FROM. 4. IN 1896 WILLIAM MCKINLEY WON THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE AS A REPUBLICAN, WITH A CAMPAIGN THAT WAS DIRECTED BY A MEMBER OF STANDARD OIL NAMED MARCUS ALONZO HANNA. A WHOPPING 16 MILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN FUNDED BY OTHER INDUSTRIALISTS AND A CAMPAIGN THEME OF "WHATS GOOD FOR BUSINESS IS GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY" STARTED THE BEGINNING OF THE CAPITALIST EMPIRE THAT WE LIVE IN TODAY. 4. INDUSTRIALIST AMERICA HAS BEEN IN COERCIAN WITH FACIST ENTITIES SINCE BEFORE WWII. ONE OF THE MOST NOTABLE IS THE HEART EMPIRE . JOURNALIST GEORGE SELDES REPORTED THAT A $ 400,000. A YEAR DEAL WAS MADE BETWEEN HEARST AND HITLER AND SIGNED BY DR. JOSEPH GOEBBELS, THE NAZI PROPAGANDA MINISTER. HEARST COMPLETELY CHANGED THE EDITORIAL POLICY OF HIS NINETEEN DAILY NEWSPAPERS THE SAME MONTH HE GOT THE MONEY. Do WE WANT IT or NOT! 2007/09/06 21:43 Karma: 0 Dear Citizens of KENTUCKY, I know a lot of people in Kentucky who are interested in the "medical marijuana" issue. However, I cannot seem to get any feedback from this site. I think that people are scared to get involved with this issue in Kentucky. Well Mr. Gatewood Galbraith has been involved most of "my" life - Do you see him being sent up the river? NO! You must be respectable and and forthright and follow the law when you are in public places. If you get "stoned" and drive, then you should be prosecuted for DUI. But if you have a reasonable amount in your home for your own use - you SHOULD NOT BE PROSECUTED. And this is what the fight is all about. Being able to make ones own decision about what they are able to "consume" in their own homes, and not at the risk of anyone else. The main argument people have (that are user's) against the legalization, (in any capacity), is that if it were made legal, they would have to pay taxes on their smoke! Well I am hear to tell you that you should not let this interfere with your decision, for it has already been made "taxable" and if you are caught with a large amount, YOU WILL BE TAXED! AND SENT TO JAIL! The second argument is the one that says that the "grade of the plant would be "diminished" if it were produced by big tobacco companies. Well, we haven't came into that issue yet. We are fighting for the right to be able to obtain it for a medical condition, and/or for your own personal use in your own home. We are fighting to be able to "produce" that product for our own use. If "big company cannabis" ever becomes an issue, we will all be ready to fight it. Because we all know what they would do to a wonderful, God given plant. No one should have the right to "own" a plant. Such is true with tobacco companies also. I believe we should have the right to grow our own tobacco in our own backyard for our own personal use. And yes, it would be taxable by weight. Or possibly by the number of plants. The state of KENTUCKY is behind in everything.....education, medical services for the poor and even the insured in a lot of cases, (Whoops! They bought the wrong insurance!). We allow our air to become more polluted than in any other state that I know of so that more businesses will locate here. Our children are uneducated for the most part even if they do finish High School. Not very many of us can go to college. Even if we could pay for it (LOL!), we wouldn't be able to pass the entrance exam for any of the better instutions, unless you are born a prodigy! Anyway, how long are we going to continue to let the government of this state throw us around like slaves, and when we become too ill to work anymore, they just throw us to the side and if we are terminal we cannot even ease our suffering until death? The state of KY county of Jefferson has about the highest death rate from cancer in the whole country. This would be a great place to legalize "medical marijuana" - then dying patients would not have to dwell on the fact that it is entirely possible that it is our own government's fault that we are succumbing to this horrid disease... What a life in Kentucky!..... There are many things that need to be worked on in this state if we are ever to arise from the political agenda. First and foremost, register to VOTE! It may sound silly to say but the vote is the only thing we still have left. If everyone gives up on voting .... they (the corrupted government leaders) have definitely won the battle! DON'T LET THIS CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IN OUR GREAT STATE OF KENTUCKY. If anything is to change for the better, WE MUST step up and fight for it and work for it. Please join the fight of a lifetime....the fight for "medical cannabis" in the state of KENTUCKY! Don't let us be last to fight to end the "war on drugs".
